Youth Sports Injuries On The Rise

Children and teens are not simply “smaller adults.” Their bones, muscles, and joints are still developing, which makes them more vulnerable to certain types of injuries. Among the most common:

  • Knee and Shoulder Injuries

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 3.5 million kids under 14 receive medical treatment for sports-related injuries each year, and high school athletes account for an estimated 2 million injuries annually.

Pelvic Floor for Men and Women

Many individuals in the United States are struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction, yet the majority remain unaware and untreated.

Astonishingly, statistics show that 1 out of every 5 Americans, regardless of age, will experience some form of pelvic floor dysfunction at some point in their lives. A staggering 25 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence, which is the involuntary loss of urine.

This condition may lead to increased or decreased sensitivity and irritation within the tissues surrounding the pelvic organs, resulting in pelvic pain.

What is pelvic floor physical therapy & who needs it?

It’s important to note that pelvic floor dysfunction is not exclusive to women; men and children can also be affected.

Pelvic floor dysfunction encompasses a wide range of issues that arise when the muscles within the pelvic floor are weak, tight or if there is any impairment within the sacroiliac joint, low back, coccyx and/or hip joint.

If you’re wondering whether you require pelvic floor physical therapy assistance, allow Aquacare’s team of dedicated specialists to provide you with the support needed for finding relief from your pelvic pain or eliminating any concerns related to urine leakage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Three things. It treats the pain you came in with, it finds the mechanical reason the injury happened in the first place, and it gets you back to the activity rather than merely away from the pain. That last part matters. Rest alone will often quiet a sore shoulder, but it will not fix the serve that made it sore.

Because we love them, and love makes us careless. The pattern is almost always the same: starting the season too fast, skipping the warm-up, or playing one more game, one more hole, one more garden bed than the body was ready for. These are not weakness injuries. They are enthusiasm injuries, and they respond well to treatment.

Your first visit is an evaluation, and it is mostly a conversation. Your therapist wants to know what hurts, when it started, what you have already tried, and, just as important, what you are trying to get back to. Walking the beach without stopping. Finishing eighteen holes. Picking up a grandchild. Getting through a shift without your back seizing up. That goal shapes everything that follows.

From there, your therapist will look at how you move. Expect some hands-on assessment of strength, flexibility, balance, and joint motion, and expect to be asked to do a few simple movements so your therapist can see what your body is actually doing rather than guessing from a description.

By the end of that first visit, you will have a plan. Your therapist will explain what they found, what is likely causing it, roughly how often they would like to see you, and what recovery is going to ask of you. In most cases treatment starts that same day, so you leave having already done something about it, usually along with a short set of exercises to work on at home.

A few practical things:

  • Wear or bring clothes you can move in. If your knee is the problem, shorts help. If it is your shoulder, a tank top or short sleeves.
  • Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of your medications, and any imaging reports or surgical notes you have.
  • Patient forms are available on our website ahead of time. Filling them out at home means more of your appointment goes toward you and less toward paperwork.
  • You do not have to be in perfect shape, in pain right that minute, or sure of what is wrong. Not knowing is a completely normal reason to come in.

Follow-up visits are working sessions. You and your therapist will build strength and mobility together, adjusting as your body responds, and you will get exercises to keep up between appointments. That home program is not filler. Patients who do it consistently tend to get better faster and hold onto the progress once therapy ends.

You will see the same therapist throughout. That continuity is the point, and it is a large part of why patients tell us therapy here felt different.

That depends on the injury, the surgery, your history, and your goals, so your therapist will give you a realistic range at your evaluation rather than a number pulled out of the air. What we can promise is that you will always know where you stand. Progress gets measured, and we talk about it out loud.

Patient Reviews

Got me through my knee replacement with flying colors! Not only helped with PT but were also my workout buddies who were there for the rough spots and when I needed to vent or needed a shoulder to cry on. Many thanks to the staff!

I've had work done on my knees, so when I needed help with my shoulder, I insisted on Aquacare! They are incredibly knowledgeable and if one method isn't working are creative in finding an exercise that does work. I can't say enough about Aquacare. They care about me and seem like family now. I'm now using their gym to build strength after a broken foot. The great thing is I know I always have someone to talk to if I have any issues while working out. I'm not left to muck it up on my own.

Claire and Mindy, these 2 physical therapist are so good at their job. It was a rough this time coming, and neither gave up and now I’m back to normal(well define normal)….they have great knowledge and if they don’t know they simply go find the answer. The whole office staff is awesome so easy to work with my schedule. Highly recommend Aqua Care on Milford

All of the physical therapists at Aquacare that worked with me are very knowledgeable and they helped me tremendously! They made sure I was doing the exercises correctly and they explained why I was doing the exercises. I can say that they gave me hope and confidence that I can return to the lifestyle I enjoyed before my injury. -David

Amanda, Ryan, and the entire staff at AQUACARE Milford are miracle workers. They listen and answer all questions, explain how each exercise interacts with the various muscle groups, how to move correctly when doing the exercises and why one has to move in a specific manner to engage the muscles properly. -Virginia

Over my ten sessions in Millville, I worked with three different therapists, and all of them were great. I like that the therapist works with you exclusively during your session. They track your progress and have a planned set of exercises to work on. I made good progress and feel great about my experience. Thank you Aquacare folks. You all are the best.

The whole staff at the Milford facility has been exceptional. The office staff also gave me a reminder call each day each day prior to my therapy appointment. They also worked with me to accommodate my schedule. Amanda, Ryan, and Julia continually analyzed my progress and worked with me making sure I was doing my therapy correctly. They massaged my back during each session which eventually got rid of my back pain. They also educated me as to why each exercise mattered. Amanda’s whole staff appeared to work well together. The equipment and facilities were constantly being cleaned.
