What is LSVT BIG?

LSVT BIG is an intensive, one-on-one physical or occupational therapy program created specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. It focuses on “amplitude” – training the body to move bigger and more powerfully instead of with the small, shuffling movements that often come with Parkinson’s.

The standard LSVT BIG protocol is:

  • 4 sessions per week

  • 1 hour per session

  • For 4 weeks (16 sessions total)

  • Daily homework and carryover exercises

Research shows that LSVT BIG can improve gait speed, stride length, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and postural instability/gait disorder in people with moderate Parkinson’s disease.jgerontology-geriatrics.com+3lsvtglobal.com+3ScienceDirect+3

In simple terms: LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson’s to take bigger steps, swing their arms more, stand taller, and move with more confidence.

I came in to have my left arm worked on for lymphedema. The staff exercised my arm thoroughly. In the process, they treated me with kindness, warmth and care as if I was a member of their family. I may not like the cancer that brought me here but their kindness has made a bad situation fun.

I have been to Aquacare/Excellens at this location for multiple reasons and have always found the therapists to be outstanding. My goals have been met to the best of their (and my) ability. It is a very careful and caring environment. Throughout the COVID restrictions, attention was paid to the health and safety of the staff and clients. I enjoy being in the company of all of the staff because they are friendly and welcoming. I am in an ongoing session and feel when I have met the current goals, I can always return for a reevaluation or additional treatment... Read more

Thank God for the great team at AquaTherapy. Wouldn't be ready for surgery if it were not for Robyn, Brianna, Mark, Bryan, Jeff, Nate and Sarah. They ALL played critical roles in preparing me for my total knee replacement. So full of knowledge and skills to get me ready. The encouragement and the humor is so helpful. Makes one want to work hard at home between PT appts. to assure you don't lose your momentum to be your best after all they do for us patients. I feel stronger and ready physically, mentally and emotionally. As I finish my last... Read more

This bulging painful lump on my Achilles’ tendon is softer, smaller, and not nearly as painful. The dry needling released tight calf muscles, and the rebuilder awakened my feet so I could do better with the exercises.
