Peripheral neuropathy is that tingling sensation or numbness you feel in your hands or feet. This sensation can be caused by diabetes, poor blood flow, injuries, or medication.

Aquacare’s expert physical therapy team in Berlin, Maryland, can help treat peripheral neuropathy using Rebuilder electrical stimulation. This treatment uses biofeedback and electrical stimulation to encourage increased blood flow, which can lessen or even eliminate numbness.

Rebuilder is used for:

What is aquatic therapy, and who is it for?

Aquatic therapy is physical therapy performed in a warm-water pool under the direction of a licensed therapist.

Water supports your body weight, which lets you move earlier and with less load on the joint than land-based therapy allows. It is often used after joint replacement, for arthritis, for chronic pain, and for patients who cannot yet tolerate full weight bearing.

Do you handle workers’ compensation and auto accident claims?

Yes. WorkStrong is our dedicated injured worker program, with job-specific documentation for case managers and adjusters, and Functional Capacity Evaluations available in Salisbury and Milford. We also treat patients injured in auto accidents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your first visit is an evaluation, and it is mostly a conversation. Your therapist wants to know what hurts, when it started, what you have already tried, and, just as important, what you are trying to get back to. Walking the beach without stopping. Finishing eighteen holes. Picking up a grandchild. Getting through a shift without your back seizing up. That goal shapes everything that follows.

From there, your therapist will look at how you move. Expect some hands-on assessment of strength, flexibility, balance, and joint motion, and expect to be asked to do a few simple movements so your therapist can see what your body is actually doing rather than guessing from a description.

By the end of that first visit, you will have a plan. Your therapist will explain what they found, what is likely causing it, roughly how often they would like to see you, and what recovery is going to ask of you. In most cases treatment starts that same day, so you leave having already done something about it, usually along with a short set of exercises to work on at home.

A few practical things:

  • Wear or bring clothes you can move in. If your knee is the problem, shorts help. If it is your shoulder, a tank top or short sleeves.
  • Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of your medications, and any imaging reports or surgical notes you have.
  • Patient forms are available on our website ahead of time. Filling them out at home means more of your appointment goes toward you and less toward paperwork.
  • You do not have to be in perfect shape, in pain right that minute, or sure of what is wrong. Not knowing is a completely normal reason to come in.

Follow-up visits are working sessions. You and your therapist will build strength and mobility together, adjusting as your body responds, and you will get exercises to keep up between appointments. That home program is not filler. Patients who do it consistently tend to get better faster and hold onto the progress once therapy ends.

You will see the same therapist throughout. That continuity is the point, and it is a large part of why patients tell us therapy here felt different.

That depends on the injury, the surgery, your history, and your goals, so your therapist will give you a realistic range at your evaluation rather than a number pulled out of the air. What we can promise is that you will always know where you stand. Progress gets measured, and we talk about it out loud.

Three things. It treats the pain you came in with, it finds the mechanical reason the injury happened in the first place, and it gets you back to the activity rather than merely away from the pain. That last part matters. Rest alone will often quiet a sore shoulder, but it will not fix the serve that made it sore.

Usually not. Delaware and Maryland both allow direct access, so you can begin treatment without seeing a physician first. Some insurance plans still require a referral for coverage, so call the clinic to verify before your first visit.

Patient Reviews

As a patient at Acuacare in Seaford for about 8weeks. I can't say enough about my care that I received from all the therapist there. Robert and all the therapist could not have been more caring and knowledgeable on helping me get my knee to reach my goal. Faith was the one I worked with the most she is a student SPT. When she gets done with all her school Faith will be a great certified therapist. With Robert, Tracy, and the other techs I would not have gotten through my journey with my knee. Please share this with them at... Read more

I was very lucky to have had had the very best physical therapist after my knee replacement. It was difficult for me, the three therapists that helped guide me through were Rob, Tracy, and Kayla, along with their many associates. I want to thank them from my heart for the wonderful treatment. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a physical therapist they are the best.

I have been in physical therapy since my back operation. Aquacare being the most recent and by far the most productive, far superior to the previous three therapies in my opinion. Everyone from Heather to Tracy, Rob, Kayla, Kelly, Deb, Morgan, and Madison that I have been in contact with have been professional, competent, and caring. For me, Aquacare was a very productive, enjoyable experience, and I would highly recommend Aquacare.

Great experience. Therapists and staff were very helpful, understanding and really listened to my issues. Rob Donati gave me information that explained what I was dealing with and tools to continue my recovery at home. The whole team worked together to help me get back to normal mobility. Thank You.

Robert Donati is an experienced therapist who constantly adjusts therapy to meet patient needs. He is caring and compassionate as well as jovial. Everybody in Seaford is wonderful to work with. My progress with my knee replacement was amazing. Then the IT band syndrome followed by bursitis was challenging to overcome. Now, I am pain free and feeling fine! Thanks to Rob and everybody at Seaford Aquacare!

This is the second time that I have been to Aquacare for my ankle. The first time I was here was for an injury to my ankle due to a fall. In 10 weeks my ankle was so much better, and I was able to wear cute high heels again. I've started PT today for tendinitis in the ankle and so far so good! The staff has always been amazing and friendly. I look forward to next few weeks of pt.
