Patient Spotlight: Joe Brozonis – Rebuilding Strength After Achilles Surgery
Milford, Delaware
Joe Brozonis knows a thing or two about staying active—and bouncing back. A longtime tennis and pickleball player, Joe tore his Achilles tendon during a match while backpedaling for a high ball. “I heard it pop,” he recalls. “It wasn’t overly dramatic, but I knew right away what had happened.”
After surgery with First State Orthopaedics, Joe began his rehabilitation journey with the expert team at Aquacare Physical Therapy in Milford, working one-on-one with physical therapist and Milford Clinic Director Alec Crichton. “The care has been excellent,” Joe says. “Alec and the entire team have helped me make great progress with my recovery.”
Joe first got connected to Aquacare through Jean Momorella, MPT, who performed his initial evaluation—and whom he already knew from local pickleball courts. His rehab journey also included at-home physical therapy with Sharon Baxley, PTA, from PT Plus before transitioning into the clinic with Jean and Alec.
Originally from the Coatesville-Lancaster area in Pennsylvania, Joe and his wife moved to Milford in 2021, after plans to build in Milton were impacted by COVID-era lumber price spikes. “We ended up buying in Milford instead, and it’s been a great decision. We love the sense of community here,” he says.
Joe especially appreciates that Aquacare offers aquatic therapy as part of its rehab options and feels that the pool accelerated the recovery process. “It’s a fantastic facility with lots of resources to support recovery,” he adds.
Joe is no stranger to Achilles injuries—he tore the other one years ago while playing basketball—but thanks to consistent, personalized therapy, he’s well on his way to getting back on the court.
